The response team discovered Fonzie unresponsive as a result of smoke inhalation. He was transported with an oxygen mask and showed only mild improvement by the time he arrived at the hospital.

His housemate, Bandit, initially appeared to have fared the effects of the fire, but by 6:00pm he began demonstrating signs of smoke inhalation and also had to be hospitalized.

Both dogs received intensive medical care and Fonzie Rescuerequired a few days hospitalization. Costs will likely exceed $5,800 to treat the dogs and after losing their home and belongings, the family has no funds available to pay for medical care.
